Chalice / Funnel

This small bronze sculpture in 'Mixed Style' is a figure of a seated lady that I developed from an oil pastel drawing. She measures 12cm / 4.7" high and has engravings of flowing lines which follow the entire body. The figurine shows the well-known stumps of legs; this means that she is sitting on her knees with the legs underneath her and with her posterior on her legs. Above these is her waist. Her breasts, shoulders and head are powerfully bundled in a shape of a large pubic triangle - a symbolic and universal form of female Lotus/Vulva or 'Venus triangle'. Two styles meet in the lady: realistic and abstract. She is inspired by the innumerable Prehistoric female figurines ('small figures’) of the global Venus Art. She is a symbol of the unity of life in nature and the personification of all that is sacred and mysterious on earth. She may be a Goddess-Creatress, the Primal Mother, a Birth Giver, Great Regeneratrix, Protectress, Nourisher, Priestess, even a Mistress. Like Old European artifacts of small statues she is the feminine force that pervaded existence. For me she is a Chalice / Funnel. All life forces are flowing through her. It fills and changes her constantly. She is a combination of forces and mysteries, hopes and desires, thoughts and feelings, beliefs, passions and a quests for Life and Living.
