Corpus Cavernosum & Corpus Spongiosum

Corpus Cavernosum was the term mainly used to indicate the erectile part of the lingam, when this was not yet recognized as a male clitoris. Today the term rightfully insicates nothing less than the erectile tissue that constitutes the shaft and the two crura of de clitoris in both its female and its male forms. The CC consists of involuntary muscles and a great number of cavities that become filled with blood during arousal. This tissue can become nearly bone hard during sexual excitement.
